Mudgil Eye Associates provides comprehensive eye care for Wayne and the Main Line, from comprehensive medical eye exams and glasses prescriptions to contact lenses, dry eye treatment, and relief from screen-related digital eye strain, at our West Chester office. Care is led by Dr. A. Vijay Mudgil, a Johns Hopkins fellowship-trained ophthalmologist, working with our optometrist, so one practice covers a child's first exam through advanced medical and surgical eye care. Wayne professionals and families choose us for fellowship-level expertise and unhurried, personal attention.
Many Wayne families first come to us for a comprehensive medical eye exam, new glasses, or a contact lens fitting, then stay for dry eye care, diabetic eye checks, and children's vision. Once they meet our doctors and the team, they typically stay with us for the long term.
Mudgil Eye Associates is at 795 East Marshall Street, Suite 103, West Chester PA 19380, in the North Hills Building. From Wayne, take Lancaster Avenue (Route 30) west through Devon, Berwyn, Paoli, Frazer, and Exton, then continue toward West Chester. The drive is typically 20-25 minutes depending on traffic on Route 30. Free on-site parking.
Many Wayne patients combine their visit with brunch or shopping in downtown West Chester, which is a short walk from our office.
Plan on 20 to 25 minutes. Almost all of that is Lancaster Avenue heading west, and the stretch through Paoli, Frazer, and Exton is what decides whether you are at the fast end or the slow end of that range. Wayne patients who want the shortest drive usually pick an early morning slot before the Route 30 commuter traffic builds, or a mid morning one after it clears. Parking at our building is free and on site, so once you arrive you are not hunting for a space the way you would along Lancaster Avenue in Wayne.
Yes. We work with optometrists throughout Wayne and the surrounding Main Line, and we consider them partners in your care. Your optometrist already knows your eyes, your prescription history, and your day to day vision needs, and there is no reason to give that up.
Here is how it works. Dr. Mudgil personally sees you for your surgical consultation and personally performs your surgery. Your follow up visits afterward are handled either by the optometrist in our office or, if it is easier for you, co-managed back with your own optometrist in Wayne. We share records and the surgical plan either way, so nobody is working from incomplete information. You can read the specifics on our page about cataract surgery for Wayne patients.
We see children, and this is one of the main reasons Wayne families make the drive. Dr. Mudgil completed a pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, so a child who fails a school vision screening or has a suspected eye turn can be evaluated in West Chester rather than sent into Philadelphia. We treat the whole family, which often means a parent and a child are seen on the same trip.
We accept most major medical insurance plans, including Medicare. We do not participate with vision-only plans such as VSP or EyeMed, and we bill all eye care under your medical insurance. Plan networks change from year to year, and Main Line employers switch carriers more often than most people expect, so rather than have you guess, our staff will verify your specific plan and your benefits before your visit. Bring your medical insurance card to your appointment, since that is the card your eye care will be billed under.
For most plans, no. You can call our office and book directly. Some HMO style plans still require a referral on file before they will cover a specialist visit, so it is worth a quick check with your plan, or you can ask our front desk when you call and they will tell you what your plan needs. If your optometrist or primary care doctor in Wayne is the one sending you, ask them to forward your records ahead of the appointment so we are not repeating tests you have already had.
